Dedicated Freight Corridor (DFC) Projects

The DFC is one of India’s largest infrastructure initiatives, covering 1,483 kilometers of dedicated railway network aimed at transforming freight transport. It will enhance speed, efficiency, and capacity, contributing to reduced logistics costs and faster delivery.

1. Project Layout:

  • Eastern DFC: Connects Ludhiana to Howrah (1,100 km)
  • Western DFC: Connects Delhi to Mumbai (1,483 km)

2. Capacity:

  • Over 1,100 freight trains daily, handling goods like containers, coal, cement, and steel.

3. Technological Advancements:

  • Dedicated freight tracks with double-stack containers and high-speed trains traveling at up to 100 km/h.
Point Icon Economic, Industrial, and Environmental Impact:

1. Economic Growth:

  • The DFC will contribute 1.5% to 2% to India’s GDP in five years by improving logistics.

2. Industrial Development:

  • Supports the growth of Multimodal Logistics Parks, SEZs, and Industrial Corridors like DMIC.

3. Environmental Impact:

  • Reduced road congestion, 15-20% lower carbon emissions, and elimination of 2 million trucks annually.
Point Icon DFC Junctions in Gujarat:
  • Key junctions include Dholera Nano City, Makarpura, Mehsana, and major industrial areas.
Point Icon Progress Update:

1. Contract Awards:

  • ₹600 crore design and build contract for major bridges between Vaitarana and Surat (200 km stretch).

2. Land Acquisition:

  • 309 km of land in Gujarat has been acquired for the Western DFC.
